League of Legends is one of the most popular online games on the internet and it’s footprint in the e-sports world is bigger than ever. So big in fact, that the World Finals will be held in the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. Because of it’s popularity, it is constantly bring in new players every day, and the same mistakes are always being made.

So let’s take a look at what we think are the top 5 mistakes made by new LOL players.

1) Realizing that it’s so easy to attach a credit card to your account.

League of Legends is a free to play game, but Riot needs to make a buck. As a new player, you can get into the game fairly quick and start playing one of the free rotation champs. Sure, that Champion might go away next week, but you really liked Heimerdinger; those turrets are pretty rad. Maybe you have enough IP, maybe you drop some lunch money on some Riot Points and pick him up. No big deal.

Before you know it, some jackass on a smurf account picks Vayne, hands you your ass on a plate and YOU JUST NEED TO TRY HIM OUT! Thank god Riot’s got your credit card on hand, because honestly what does $50 get you these days anyway? You really need that new ADC.

2) Being honest with your team mates and letting them know you’ve never played a Normal game before.

I don’t really want to call the community at large in League toxic, but they tend to get angry sometimes. Most players like to dip their toes into a bot-run game before testing their mettle in a Normal game verse other players. When you’re ready to make that leap into Normals and start playing against living and breathing players, you might want to avoid letting everyone know it’s your first time.

I mean, you’re playing Vayne bottom lane and you just happen to die 4 or 5 times. No big deal right? Well, Ahri in the mid lane might get a little upset when at 8 minutes a fed Master Yi swoops in an Alpha Strikes her tail off. If you’re a new player, I suggest not bringing up your noobness and blame it on your mouse suddenly not working or something like that.

3) Breaking the Meta. It’s possible. Really. I promise you this will work.

So you’ve been playing for a little while, you’ve got a few rune slots open and you’re ready for Diamond I. You’ve watch the pros streaming. You’ve been watching Fiss Mortune RED’s youtube channel all day. This game is easy! Not only that, you notice something odd. Why can’t you run a trilane up top? You can just overwhelm whoever is up there and take towers like no tomorrow.

You take this strat to champ select and you explain, calmly, that Vayne, Caitlyn and Graves is viable top. Not to mention you’re already autolocked as Graves and waiting patiently for the game to start. How could you lose? It’s not like there are thousands of people playing 15 hours a day. Trust your gut, you’ve got this.

4) You only need to ward Baron. Because. What else do you need wards for?

You know, Baron is pretty powerful. You really need to keep an eye on him throughout the game just in case he decides to come after you. You’ve watched a bunch of matches online, and you see players constantly dropping those pick ward things near Baron all the time. That means you have to do it too, at least three of them. Why? Because that’s what you do.

It’s not like you ever try to kill him, but you want to know if the other team does. Because it’s important. You just never seem to understand why the other team never tried to kill him. Must be the wards. That’s what they are there for! Protecting Baron!

5) Press F to see the new dance Riot just put in for your champion.

It’s pretty fricken sweet you know. Dat dance. Make sure every time you start a new game and you’re waiting in lane for the minions to spawn to press F to check out the new dance moves Riot put in for your new champ. You should probably check every game because Riot likes to put in new dances like once a week. Maybe every hour. Who knows.
